Recently, Douyin issued a reminder, saying that the platform has received feedback from users, and the scam of "impersonating Douyin customer service" has a new routine. Fraudsters send fake courier "pickup codes" to users to induce users to take the initiative to contact and deal with them, and commit fraud. Douyin reminds everyone that Douyin customer service will not send you information in the name of any other product or company, and if you encounter a call or text message claiming to be Douyin customer service, you can call the official service hotline 95152 for verification.
This type of scam is usually used by fraudsters in the name of the courier company to send users a text message that "the courier has been delivered to the community station", with a "pickup code" and a contact number. When the user arrives at the post station to pick up the parcel, he finds that there is no express delivery of his own, so he calls the reserved phone number of the SMS for consultation. After the phone was dialed, the other party directly skipped the issues related to the express delivery, pretended to be the identity of "Douyin customer service" to inform the user that a certain member was about to be deducted, and then induced the user to download other software step by step to "assist in closing the member", and finally defrauded the user's property.
The courier pickup code message sent by the fraudsters to the user
According to the Douyin customer service staff, in addition to express delivery, fraudsters have often sent text messages to users for various reasons such as "users are limited to high consumption", "charging services have been contracted to deduct fees", "opening the right to bring goods can get a lot of income" and other reasons, once the user believes and calls the consultation phone left in the text message, the fraudsters completely ignore the content of the text message, claiming to be "Douyin customer service" to defraud.
Fraudsters impersonate different identities to send fake messages to users
Douyin reminds once again that Douyin customer service will not send messages to users in any other capacity, nor will it inform users that "a certain function/service is about to be charged", and will not ask users to download other software or share their screens. At the same time, Douyin has also launched anti-fraud tips on multiple pages such as "My Customer Service", "My Wallet" and "Live Broadcast", hoping to remind users to be vigilant and beware of being deceived.
If there is a suspicious text message or call that is difficult to distinguish between real and fake, users can also directly call the official service hotline 95152 of Douyin for verification, or search for "verification assistant" in the Douyin App, enter the phone number, text message content, URL, etc. to verify whether it is from Douyin official.
