The classic story is mired in controversy

From "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" becoming world-famous in 1937 to now the live-action version of "Snow White" has been criticized, Disney has lost not the box office, but a generation's love for fairy tales.

As early as the announcement of the casting of the film, a series of controversies have begun to take shape. The filmmakers chose brown-skinned Latino actor Rachel Ziegler to play Snow White, who was accused of not matching the setting. For this reason, Disney had to "magically change" the original book, changing the well-known "skin as white as snow" to the so-called "baby born in Blizzard", which was ridiculed by netizens as "Blizzard Princess". However, this setting still sounds very reluctant and has been derided as a "violent deconstruction of cultural symbols". Even more surprisingly, the heroine, Rachel Ziegler, is also not very concerned about the story of "Snow White", which she sees as an outdated story between a "girl and the man who follows her". The relevant remarks caused dissatisfaction among fans of the original book before the release.

The peculiarity of "Snow White" is that the core setting of the story is too closely related to "skin color". In the original story, the heroine, whose skin is as white as snow, has been repeatedly declared by the magic mirror to be the most beautiful person in the world. And when this classic plot is reproduced in the film, Gal Gadot, who plays the vicious queen, has outstanding appearance, disintegrating the narrative logic of "jealous beauty". Perhaps the filmmaker also took this factor into account, so this factor was added to the selection criteria of "The Most Beautiful Person", and the magic mirror believes that Snow White, who is both kind and brave, is the "first beauty", and the queen's beauty is just in vain. At the same time, in order to highlight the aura of Snow White's character, this version of "Snow White" also changed the setting of the prince and set his character as a robber.

Although the main story of the original animation is retained, and famous scenes such as the Magic Mirror Dialogue, Poison Apple, and True Love's Kiss are also shown in the film, this adaptation still exposes narrative shortcomings that are difficult to hide. For example, the story does not end with Snow White's happy life with the prince, but ends with Snow White shouting "I don't want to be saved" and returning to the castle to seize power and become queen. Such an adaptation could not meet the emotional needs of nostalgic audiences, nor could it attract a new generation of audiences.

"Princess Magic" is in danger
