中新網北京4月16日電 總部位於美國加州的非營利組織施密特海洋研究所當地時間15日在一份聲明中表示，該機構一艘科考船上的尋找海洋生物團隊首次在深海中拍攝到巨型烏賊的影像。

聲明稱，3月9日，在南大西洋南桑威奇群島附近海域，一個由多國人員組成的尋找海洋生物團隊利用施密特海洋研究所的潛水器偶然發現了這隻巨型烏賊。當時，這隻約30釐米長的幼年烏賊正在600米深的水下游弋。

This year marks the 500th anniversary of the giant squid being confirmed to have been found and officially named, the statement said.
