According to foreign media reports, Blizzard Entertainment officially confirmed today that "Overwatch: Homecoming" will launch a new "hero ban system" in competitive mode in Season 23 (0 daily update on 0 month). This mechanic is designed to give players more control over their tactical decisions, while avoiding the further marginalization of lesser-known heroes due to bans!

According to the official description, the hero ban process is divided into two stages of voting:

1. Priority Team Determination: If the total number of votes for the same hero is the same between the two teams, the system will randomly select the "priority team", and the hero with the highest number of votes from that team will be banned.

2. Handling of the last team:

◦ If the top two heroes of the next team to vote do not conflict with the first banned hero of the priority team, the top two heroes of the vote will be disabled.

◦ If any of the top two votes of the team in the second choice overlaps with the first hero banned by the priority team, its third hero will be banned instead.

◦ The hero with the second highest vote in the priority team will be banned subsequently, and the rules will be handled according to the logic of the later team.

Equal Vote and Duty Protection Mechanism

• In the event of a tie vote, heroes that are individually selected by more players will be banned first. If the ticket is still tied, it will be randomly disabled.

• A single duty (e.g., Reload, Output, Support) allows a maximum of two heroes to be banned. If a duty has reached its limit, subsequent votes will automatically transfer to the one with the highest number of votes among the other duties.

Functional details added

• During the Disabled phase, players will not be able to view the enemy lineup, and the global chat feature will be temporarily disabled.

• Players can default to the "Preferred Hero" in advance for teammates to avoid being banned by mistake, but the system does not force the selection to be locked.

Blizzard said that the design hopes to balance the player's experience against "heroes who are too strong or have a bad experience", while leaving room for roster flexibility. After the Season 16 update, players will be able to experience the disabling system together in competitive mode!
