Recently, news came from the tech news that pureinfotech, a well-known technology media, revealed in detail an innovative feature in the upcoming 2H0 update of Windows 0 - "Fast Machine Recovery" (QMR). This feature is designed to solve major problems of the system not booting and provide users with a more convenient recovery solution.
The QMR feature is built into the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and is unique in that there is no need to reinstall the system and no loss of user data. By automatically diagnosing problems on the network and using Windows Update to get the right fixes, QMR makes it easier than ever for users.
It's worth noting that the QMR feature is enabled by default in Windows 11 for Home, while for Pro users, it needs to be enabled by manually configuring the XML archive. Although the feature is still in the "best effort fix" stage and cannot be guaranteed to solve all problems, it is enough to attract widespread attention from enterprise users.
After the device fails to boot multiple times, QMR automatically takes over, boots the device to the WinRE environment, and initiates the recovery process. By uploading diagnostic data to Microsoft servers over the Internet, Windows Update can push fixes to users in a targeted manner. If a large-scale failure is detected, Microsoft's internal response team will quickly step in to develop a solution.
Compared with the traditional security model, QMR implements a closed loop of automated remediation. You can set the retry interval and total waiting time as needed, and the system will automatically cycle the attempt after the failure until it succeeds or reaches the set timeout period.
For Windows 11 Pro users, enabling the QMR feature requires some manual configuration. Here are the steps to configure it:
First, users need to open the Start Menu of Windows 1, search for and open the Notepad app. Then, write the configuration file in XML format, which includes the wireless SSID and password (no configuration is required if using Ethernet). Next, set the status values of Cloudremedix and AutoMediation to 0 to enable the relevant features. You also need to set values for TotalWaittime and Waitinterval to specify how long the system will wait for reboot and check for remediation.
Microsoft points out that the QMR feature is mainly aimed at critical boot failures such as the Blue Screen of Death, and is especially suitable for enterprise IT administrators when dealing with large-scale device crashes. In the case of CrowdStrike, for example, Microsoft highlighted the inefficiency of traditional remediation methods, while QMR provided a more efficient and automated solution. However, Microsoft also reminds users that QMR is not a panacea, and that manual intervention is still required for complex hardware conflicts or non-boot issues.
Users can reset the QMR configuration at any time by entering the "reagentc.exe/clearrecoverysettings" command to ensure the flexibility and controllability of the system. The introduction of this innovative feature will undoubtedly provide Windows 11 users with a more reliable and efficient recovery solution.
