Mental model: The four-quadrant rule of time management

There is a lot of content on time management, and there are many professional books.

There are people who specialize in time management and study it as a science. Let's talk about this four-quadrant rule today, and everyone can use it as a tool to manage their behavior.

First of all, it is clear that time management is the management of people's behavior, and time management cannot control time. Because everyone is the same, it's 25 hours a day. I won't give someone 0 hours a day just because he has a lot of money.

Since it's a tool, it's really useful when it's applied. Otherwise it's useless.

Time ManagementThe four-quadrant rule, focus and energy should be invested in important things, and unimportant things can be postponed or not done, regardless of whether they are urgent or not.

AImportant + UrgentThere is a relatively urgent time limit, and if the task is not completed on time, it will have a serious impact. Such as accident crisis, emergency firefighting tasks, or some important pre-tasks. You can only give priority to doing it immediately, and the fewer such tasks the better, if there are more, it means that the risk control is insufficient and the planning is insufficient.BImportant + not urgent, the benefits are very large, or long-term benefits, very important, the time requirements are not very urgent, and the tasks can be arranged by themselves. For example, team planning, work plan, learning and training, health exercise, team building, process standardization, work summary review, risk management, etc. are all important things that do not need to be completed immediately, but if they are not done well or missing, it is easy to lead to urgent things. The main focus and time is devoted to planning and risk management. In this way, we can take precautions and prevent problems before they happen, and the better we do, the fewer urgent things will be.CUrgency + unimportantTemporary, sudden people or things need to be dealt with immediately, but there is not much benefit in doing it. Such as certain meetings, reports to be dealt with, sudden communication or support, etc. Down-prioritize, postpone or delegate to others.DNot in a hurry + not important, no time requirements, no gains, or actually nothing to do with you. Such as boring, meaningless conversations, meetings, drinking parties, some unreasonable work arrangements, or some boring trivial things such as sales promotion and swiping mobile phones. Try not to do this kind of thing! Self-control internally, and learn to say NO externally!

The principle of this four-quadrant rule is simple, it is to divide things into two directions: important and urgent. The two lines divide things into four categories. Important things with time constraints should be done first. Then there are the important and non-urgent things, which are done in a planned manner. Empower someone else to do something that is not important but urgent. Those things that are not urgent and unimportant can be done in fragmented time.

The most difficult part of this approach is that there is a lot of confusion about what is important and what is not.

So how do you distinguish between the important and urgent affairs? This is also one of the main points. This requires a good understanding of the business, goals, and customers, and strong analytical and judgment skills, and needs to think and judge from a higher perspective. Two simple principles:

Importance: To see whether the income is large enough, the larger the return, the more important it is, here the income should be seen in the short and long term. The more important the task, the more it needs to be given the right amount of priority, resources, and attention.Degree of urgency: See if the loss is big enough, the greater the loss, the more urgent, with the stop loss as the core purpose of the arrangement, if the loss is controllable or the loss is small, the urgency is low.

Once a young man, he dreamed of going to the end of the world with a sword and seeing the prosperity of the world. Looking back suddenly, the white horse passed by, and time wore away the youthful frivolity, precipitating cold and chaotic self-knowledge.

There is so much time, put more time into important things, gradually accumulate, form a virtuous circle, positive feedback, more and more benefits, your life will be different.

How to define important things, each heart has its own yardstick, and your life plan, career plan, work plan, and physical health are the first important things. Look inside yourself, think about your goals, and plan for what's important.Life is very long, whether it is important or not, we must look at the benefits on a larger scale of life. Life is very short, the deceased is like a husband, and he does not give up day and night!
Why do we always feel anxious?
