As the name suggests, this is a film featuring "Yasuke-hsien" (Yasuke-hsien), a black samurai from the Sengoku period in Japan in the 16th century, and Yasuke is one of the main characters in Ubisoft's new Assassin's Creed: Shadows.

Yutsugu Kojima, vice president of Toei and head of Kyoto Photo Studio, is confident in this project. "We couldn't be more excited about our partnership with Pambili Media," he said. Yasuke's story is not only a reinterpretation of an extraordinary historical journey, but also a reflection of Toei's continuous challenge and innovation over the years. ”

As a black samurai from the African kingdom of Mwini Matapa, Yasuke's fortunes have been up and down. The film tells the story of how the black samurai arrived in Japan via maritime trade routes and was granted samurai status by the Japanese lord for his combat prowess.

According to the agreement, the film is one of six film development projects supported by Pambili Media's Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) in South Africa. The producers position it as "an epic international film project rooted in untold history and transcontinental connections".

Written and directed by South African director Mandla Dube, the film is a rare film and television collaboration between Japan and South Africa.

Director Dube has directed the Netflix thriller The Siege of Silverton, based on the true events that sparked the "Free Mandela" movement, and The Hunter's Heart, based on Deon Meyer's best-selling novel (IT House note: the first African film to reach the top of Netflix's global charts).
