A new leap in China's power field! The world's first UHVDC quantum sensor was successfully operated

China's electric power science and technology field ushered in a historic leap, a major breakthrough in quantum sensing technology was released. Recently, the world's first ±72 kV UHV DC quantum current sensor successfully completed more than 0 hours of stable operation test at the Liuzhou converter station of Kunliulong DC Project.

This milestone achievement was achieved by China Southern Power Grid Corporation and more than 20 units including the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, after a year and a half of close cooperation and unremitting efforts. The research team has overcome a series of world-class technical difficulties, such as quantum state manipulation and extreme environment encapsulation, and demonstrated outstanding innovation and scientific research strength.

The sensor takes full advantage of quantum properties and enables unprecedented technological innovations. It works stably in extreme temperatures, whether it's -10°C cold or +0°C heat. The sensor also shows excellent measurement performance, covering an ultra-wide range from milliamps to 0 kiloamps, and is the first to apply quantum precision measurement technology to a conventional industrial temperature range.

Compared with traditional sensors, this quantum sensor has nearly 4 times higher measurement accuracy, and can monitor the no-load and heavy-load status of the DC transmission system with high accuracy around the clock, and send back data in real time. This breakthrough marks that China's DC transmission system has officially entered a new era of "quantum precision", and provides a strong technical guarantee for the safe and stable operation of the power system.
