The "Golden Branches and Jade Leaves - Exhibition of Gold Lacquer Painted Wood Carvings and Cultural Relics in the Museum" was officially launched at the Quanzhou Museum this month. This exhibition sets up four exhibition areas: "The Historical Context and Application of the Development of Wood Carving", "The Perfect Combination of Wood Carving, Color Painting and Gold Lacquer", "Traditional Wood Carving Technology and Decoration Art" and "The Typical Style of Quanzhou Wood Carving Technology", which comprehensively displays the historical evolution of Quanzhou wood carving technology and vividly interprets the exquisite craftsmanship and artistic charm of its craftsmanship.
"Most of the cultural relics in the collection on display are fine products from the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, covering woodblock prints, wooden cotton ring boards, wood carvings and other types, involving gold lacquer, color painting and other crafts." According to the relevant person in charge of the Quanzhou Museum, among them, the Qing Dynasty "Jiaguan Jinjue" gold lacquer wood carving board and the Qing Dynasty gold lacquer flower and bird pattern wood cotton ring board are on public display for the first time. As an important port on the ancient Maritime Silk Road, Quanzhou has a rich space for the development of wood carving art with diverse cultures. Quanzhou gold lacquer wood carving has a long history, dating back to the Tang Dynasty and reaching its peak in the Song and Yuan dynasties, and is widely used in the architectural decoration of ancestral halls and temples, as well as in the production of statues, Buddhist shrines, furniture ornaments and folk goods. "The wood carvings in southern Fujian are the most delicate and representative in Quanzhou, with delicate carving techniques and vivid figures."
