According to foreign media reports, Vietnam's Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism met with Riot Games executives and a film crew to jointly plan and shoot a 9-episode live-action TV series of "League of Legends".

With the success of the animated series League of Legends: Two Cities, there has been a discussion about the next step for League of Legends as a media asset. Riot Games employees have confirmed that the company plans to release more TV series. However, unexpectedly, the new endeavor of the League of Legends universe will move beyond animation and into live-action shooting.

The Vietnamese government has met with Riot Games to confirm its intention to undertake the production of the show. While negotiations are still ongoing, they are aiming to start filming by the end of 2025.

"League of Legends" will usher in a live-action TV series

The Vietnamese government officially announced the meeting in a Facebook post, confirming that Vietnam's Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyen Van Hung, met with Riot Games and a film crew that was conducting location surveys.

While there was still a lot of negotiation work to be done for the production team to comply with Vietnam's environmental and safety laws and regulations, Riot already had a very specific location in mind.

The team wanted to shoot on Cat Ba Island, an archipelago of 367 islands off the southeast coast of Vietnam. Considering the area's scenic beauty and crystal clear waters, this makes Birgewater or Shadow Island a possible filming location.

Riot Games has also brought in some heavyweights to make it, and Rose Lam will be the producer of the project. She was the producer of HBO's hit series The Last of Us, one of the highest-rated video game adaptations of all time.

Again, there are no specific details yet as to which region of the League of Legends universe this TV series will be based on. However, if you want to shoot a series about pirates, choosing an archipelago as the backdrop for Bilgewater would be a good choice.

Considering that the show is not scheduled to start filming until the end of 2025, it may still be a long time before it reaches the audience. However, it shows that Riot Games remains committed to investing heavily in continuing to expand the League of Legends universe.

Riot is also working on 2XKO, a League of Legends cosmic fighting game that brings its iconic characters to a new battlefield.
