In the busy working life, commuting time has become a unique moment of relaxation in my day, and my commuting partners are the warm companions of this time.
My first commuter ride was on the subway. Every morning, I weave through the bustling crowd and into the slightly crowded carriage. Although I was surrounded by unfamiliar faces, the familiar sound of the subway station and the rhythmic sound of driving made me feel reassured. I'll put on headphones on the subway to listen to my favorite music, or read an interesting book, immerse myself in my little world, and recharge my batteries for the work I am about to start. After getting off work in the evening, I leaned on the handrail of the subway and looked at the lights flying by the window, reviewing the day's work, sorting out my thoughts, and enjoying this short time alone.
Later, I met a colleague and we lived so close together that we became good commuters. We would share interesting stories and worries about our work as we walked. I remember one time, I was facing a problem in a project and was feeling down. On the way, I confided in him, and he listened patiently, then gave a lot of practical advice and jokes to amuse me. His encouragement reinvigorated me and made me realize how lucky I am to have such a friend to talk to in the workplace.
Sometimes, my commuter ride turns into a street-side breakfast stand. In the morning, I would stop in front of a familiar stall and buy a steaming breakfast. The stall owner always greeted me warmly, and the kind smile and simple greeting made me feel the warmth of ordinary life. With this warmth, I start a new day's work.
On my commute, I also met an elderly man who went for a morning jog. Every morning, when I walk to the subway station, I can always see him running in good spirits. His persistence and energy are infectious, and I want to stay positive in my busy life. Although we never spoke, his figure became a familiar scenery on my commute, a silent companion.
These commuting partners, some of them are wordless companions, some are warm exchanges, and they have accompanied me through countless commuting days. During this seemingly ordinary commute, I gained relaxation, friendship and strength, which made me better able to face the challenges of the workplace and the trivialities of life. They made me understand that even ordinary daily life can become extraordinarily beautiful because of these little companionships.
