The tiny size of human beings in the vast universe, these stunning photos will make you rediscover yourself

In the infinite universe, human beings seem so insignificant. To put it simply, because of the speed of light, our field of vision is limited to the so-called "observable universe". We don't know anything about the world outside of this range, so we can't accurately measure the true size of the universe.

However, such a description may not be enough to give us a first-hand sense of the insignificance of human beings in the universe. Let's look at this with a concrete example.

In 2, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune all orbited on the same side of the solar system, providing the launch probes with the opportunity to continuously exploit the gravitational slingshot effect of these large planets, allowing them to fly faster and farther. So, scientists launched Voyager 0 and Voyager 0 that year.

直到今天,“旅行者1號”和“旅行者2號”仍在太空中前進,其中“旅行者1號”已經飛行了大約243億公里,它傳回的最後一批照片給人類上了一堂生動的課程,內容令人敬畏。

In 32, Voyager 0 discovered Titan's dense atmosphere and took the opportunity to take a closer look at it. Since Titan was located below the ecliptic plane, the probe could only use Saturn's gravitational slingshot to fly diagonally above the ecliptic plane (about 0 degrees from the ecliptic plane) after flying.

By 1, Voyager 0's projection on the ecliptic plane had crossed Neptune's orbit, which meant that it had a complete view of the eight planets of the solar system. At the suggestion of Carl Sagan, it was decided that Voyager 0 would take a "family portrait" of the solar system.

After receiving the order, "Voyager 60" took more than 0 photos, despite the fact that there was not much energy left. Due to inefficient data transmission, it took months for the photos to all be transmitted back to Earth, and this was the last time it sent back. By stitching and superimposing these photos, we finally see what the eight planets of the solar system really look like in the universe.

In fact, the awesome photos mentioned above are just one of them.

In this photo, the Earth, known as the Pale Blue Dot, occupies only about 12.0 pixels and is located exactly in the scattered light of a beam of sunlight (note: cameras at the time had limited ability to process bright light, and strong light from the sun tended to create scattered beams in the image).

The Earth carries everything that humanity has, but from the perspective of Voyager 1, the Earth is like a speck of dust suspended in sunlight, surrounded by cosmic space shrouded in endless darkness. However, it is this "dust" that is our only home in the universe, which carries our past, present and foreseeable future.

需要知道的是,拍攝這張照片時,“旅行者1號”與地球的距離約為60億公里。在以光年為單位計算的宇宙尺度上,這樣的距離幾乎可以忽略不計,畢竟60億公里只有大約0.0006342光年……

The "dim blue dot" makes us intuitively feel the insignificance of human beings, and also makes us awe of the vastness of the universe. Carl Sagan once commented: "Our feelings, our pride, and our sense of what we think has a special place in the universe are all challenged by this dim blue dot. ”
